OEA-RETIRED MEMBER LOBBY DAY
We invite you to the OEA-Retired Lobby Day on Tuesday, October 21st from 9:30 am – 1 pm at the state capitol. OEA-R is holding a lobby day for members on Tuesday, October 21st in Columbus. Thisis an opportunity to voice strong opposition to the STRTS takeover. Importantly there are legislators who are talking about “future pension reform” that could put our future COLAs in greater jeopardy. It’s never been more important for legislators to feel our presence and know of our concerns. |

Lawsuit Filed to Restore Educator Voice on the STRS Board

| On September 16, 2025, active and retired members of OEA, OFT, and AAUP filed a lawsuit in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas challenging House Bill 96’s elimination of educator representation on the STRS Board. On behalf of the nearly 120,000 OEA members, retired members Kevin Cain and Becky Brown, and other active STRS-contributing educators from OFT and AAUP are serving as plaintiffs.
Why we’re suing:
|
| The bigger picture:
These actions are part of a broader pattern of political attacks on public education and educators by the majority party in Columbus—underfunding public schools, weakening contract safeguards, silencing higher ed faculties, and eliminating elected State Board of Education members. We will not allow politicians to erase educators’ voices. What’s next & how can you help:
Thank you for all you do for public education, the students you serve, and your colleagues.
|
| Yours in solidarity,
Jeff Wensing |

NEOEA Day – Friday, October 10, 2025

This year’s NEOEA Day is available to NEOEA Retired members too!
The educators who established the North Eastern Ohio Teachers Association in 1869 could not have anticipated many of the changes which have happened in our profession: higher academic standards for teachers, educator unionization, high-stakes testing, and the inclusion of classified staff alongside classroom teachers.
Our 2025 NEOEA Day Catalog is available at http://www.neoea.org/files/ND2025.pdf.
