Lets get ready to motivate children to read and generate new enthusiasm for reading!

NEOEA-Retired will be celebrating NEA’s Read Across America starting on March 1 and continuing into the month.  We will read to students across NEOEA.  Retired readers are needed to read in classrooms, libraries, or at other events.  Active teachers have found this to be an exciting program to bring to their schools.  If you can spend some time reading to children, please contact Beryl Burkle, NEOEA-R Read Across America Chairperson, at berylburkle@gmail.com or 330-659-3928.

The ten districts of OEA-R joined together to Celebrate Diversity across the state of Ohio this year.  A grant was given to buy books from a children’s list of books from NEA.  We had four of our retirees receive books and record their reading.  The stories were then transferred to the OEA-R Read Across America webpage. Click here to view the videos: https://www.ohea.org/resources/all/oear-read-across-america/.  The videos are available for teachers to use in their classrooms.  Our readers were Nanci DiBianca, Jene’ Wilson, Tom Moscovic, and Beryl Burkle.  Thank you for your hard work helping to put it all in motion.

Steven Mitchell of East Cleveland, one of our own retirees, had his children’s book published this winter.  This title just fits into Celebrate Diversity, Read Across America.  Hats off to Steven with I Can’t Read, Oh! What Shall I Do?  It can be bought through Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
